This includes full train preparation, locomotive handling, fault reporting, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong><br /> Drive freight trains safely, efficiently, and in line with operational plans.<br /> Conduct full train and locomotive preparation duties, including fuelling and brake testing.<br /> Carry out in-service train and locomotive fault finding and basic repairs (where competent).<br /> Monitor and report train or track defects following company procedures and the Rulebook.<br /> Perform freight and load examination duties.<br /> Maintain a high standard of professionalism when interacting with colleagues, clients, and the public.<br /> Undertake route learning and sign for routes upon completion.<br /> Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.<br /> Willingness to lodge away from home when necessary.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>What We’re Looking For</strong><br /> <strong>Essential:</strong><br /> Train Driving Licence<br /> Relevant traction knowledge and Personal Track Safety (PTS).<br /> Understanding of freight rules and regulations.<br /> Basic wagon knowledge.<br /> Strong safety awareness and operational discipline.<br /> Flexibility to work a range of shifts and travel as required.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Desirable:</strong><br /> Current route knowledge of the LNE Region.<br /> Experience assisting with minor locomotive maintenance.<br /> A passion for continuous learning and high standards of customer service.<br /> Your Values Matter</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>We look for individuals who:</strong><br /> Engage & Care – Build strong relationships and provide thoughtful, sustainable solutions.<br /> Execute & Share – Deliver high-quality work, celebrate success, and promote inclusivity.<br /> Energise & Dare – Bring energy, embrace innovation, and push the boundaries of what’s possible.<br /> Diversity, Inclusion & Flexibility<br /> We are committed to building a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
